PRESS RELEASE
Last Surviving Member of Car Crash Tragedy Found
North Andover, May 30, 2006 - In follow up to the story on the front page of today's Boston Globe on the tragic car crash of Sunday May 28th,
("Parents Die, Children Rescued in Crash") we wanted to let you know that there were also two dogs in the car at the time. One dog was found dead
in the wreckage. The other dog was either thrown, or somehow escaped from the car. From what we understand, friends of the couple had been following
the car and were on hand to help with the rescue operation. The friends went back the next day to look for Sheeba, the missing four year old German
Shepard. She was found hiding in the woods with lacerations on her forehead and limping.
The dog was brought to Essex County Veterinary Emergency Hospital in North Andover on Monday around 3pm. X-rays showed that Sheeba had suffered
a minor scull fracture in addition to some scrapes and bumps. She was treated for her injuries by Krista Vernaleken, VMD. Sheeba was given pain
medication and sent home that same day. She is reportedly doing well and recovering nicely.
Essex County Veterinary Emergency Hospital is a regular resource for pet owners and professionals in the North Shore area. At the end of April
2006, Haverhill Animal Control brought a pair of rescued boxers and a cat in for treatment. At least one of those boxers is healthy again and has
been successfully adopted into a new home. During the recent flooding in Lawrence, pet owners brought two pit-bulls in to be boarded while their
home was water-logged. Those two dogs went home this last weekend. "Essex County Veterinary Emergency Hospital has serviced the needs of the Greater
Merrimack Valley for the last ten years and continues to be a resource for the pet-owning community in times of crisis" said Ames Prentiss, Chief
Operating Officer of InTown Veterinary Group.
